Position: School Counselor

Reports to: Principal or Director of Counseling Services

Job Summary:
The School Counselor is responsible for providing comprehensive counseling services to students, focusing on their academic, career, and personal/social development. The counselor collaborates with teachers, parents, and other professionals to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes students' success.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Conduct individual and group counseling sessions with students to address academic, career, and personal/social concerns.
2. Support students in developing and implementing academic and career plans, including course selection, college applications, and post-secondary options.
3. Assist students in identifying and overcoming barriers to learning and personal growth, such as behavioral issues, mental health concerns, and family conflicts.
4. Collaborate with teachers and parents to develop and implement strategies to support students' academic progress and social-emotional well-being.
5. Provide crisis intervention and support to students experiencing emergencies or challenging situations.
6. Facilitate workshops and presentations to promote student awareness of various topics, such as mental health, bullying prevention, and conflict resolution.
7. Maintain accurate and confidential student records, documenting counseling sessions, interventions, and referrals.
8. Stay updated on current research, best practices, and legal requirements related to school counseling and student support services.
9. Actively participate in professional development activities, including workshops, conferences, and ongoing training.
10. Collaborate with school staff and community organizations to coordinate and provide resources and referrals for students and families in need.
11. Develop and implement a comprehensive school counseling program, aligned with state standards and guidelines.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

1. Master's degree in School Counseling or a related field.
2. Valid state license or certification as a School Counselor.
3. Proven experience working as a School Counselor or in a related counseling role.
4. In-depth knowledge of counseling theories, techniques, and interventions applicable to school settings.
5. Strong understanding of child and adolescent development, including social-emotional and cognitive processes.
